Murano ‘Iridato glass vase signed by Sergio Rossi, 21.5cm high(8.5″) approx.(IPP)

This exceptional Iridato vase by Sergio Rossi is a vibrant masterwork that exemplifies the “Post-Modern Baroque” style of late 20th-century Murano glass. Rossi is celebrated for his high-energy compositions that breathe new life into ancient techniques, creating pieces that feel both historically significant and strikingly contemporary.
Form: Sculptural Cylindrical Vase with Applied Undulating Ribs Techniques: Fenicio (Festooned threading), Latteimo (Opaque white glass), and Iridato (Iridescent coating)
The vase features a sturdy, architectural form with a slightly flared base and a wide, undulating rim. The silhouette is dominated by its heavy, organic presence and the dynamic movement of its surface decoration.
The Fenicio Pattern: The body is wrapped in a high-contrast “festooned” motif. Threads of deep, cobalt blue glass have been combed into sharp, rhythmic waves over a base of milk-white (lattimo) glass. This technique results in a hypnotic, marbelized pattern that defines the entire vessel’s visual rhythm.
The entire exterior is treated with a signature iridescent coating (iridato). This metallic salts application creates a soft, pearlescent glow that dances across the surface, reflecting flashes of violet, pink, and pale gold.
Flanking the sides are thick, clear iridescent glass applications. These sculptural ribs are pulled into fluid, organic “fins” while the glass is molten, adding a tactile, three-dimensional element that catches and refracts light like water.
