A pumpkin shaped Murano glass signed Sergio Rossi, 18.5cm high(7.5″) approx.(IPP)

This captivating Iridato vase by Sergio Rossi is a masterful expression of Murano’s “New Baroque” movement. It combines earthy, stone-like textures with high-glamour finishes, showcasing Rossi’s ability to create glass that feels both organic and intensely artificial.
The vase features a low-slung, globular body with a short neck and a wide, flared rim. Its proportions give it a weighted, sculptural presence that anchors the complex patterns swirling across its surface.
The Fenicio Waves: The body is wrapped in a dynamic “combed” pattern. Threads of muted amethyst and plum glass have been pulled into rhythmic waves over a base of mottled white and pale blue.
Speckled Depth: The background glass features a polvere (powder) inclusions, creating a finely speckled, “salt-and-pepper” texture that mimics natural stone or granite.
The Green Rim: In a brilliant pop of contrast, the interior of the flared rim is finished in a vibrant emerald green. The color is applied in a feathered, radial pattern that draws the eye toward the center of the vessel.
Iridescent Sheen: The entire exterior has been treated with a signature iridescent coating. This metallic salts application creates a shimmering, pearlescent glow that reflects shades of pink and violet, especially over the darker fenicio lines.
Applied Ribbing: Flanking the sides are thick, clear glass applications that have been pulled into undulating, serpentine ribs. These sculptural “fins” follow the curve of the vase, adding a tactile, three-dimensional energy that catches sunlight beautifully.
Sergio Rossi is celebrated for his “Post-Modern” reinterpretations of historical Murano techniques. By taking the Fenicio style—which has roots in ancient Egyptian glassmaking—and layering it with a speckled “stone” background and a futuristic iridescent sheen, Rossi creates a piece that feels like a discovered archaeological treasure reimagined for a luxury modern interior.
